**I know that initially I said I was going to use the Walmart grant, but after actually doing my proposal, I found that grant was not enough money-wise.
Amanda, I think that furniture is something that every classroom needs, especially the right type of furniture. I have a lot of furniture in the library that allows students to feel at home when reading a good book or just browsing a magazine. I also have a bunch of circular tables in the back of the library for large classes to come and enjoy as well. I can see where you had to change your grant, but I am glad that you found another one to fit your needs. I think that your Integration Initiative was very well written and thought out. I hope you do apply for this grant and receive everything that you have listed. The resources that you found went right along with your proposal and making it clear that you do need this furniture in your classroom. Great job!
Amanda, Learning Furniture ... Interactive Learning Furniture... now that sounds hi-tech... What a great idea and proposal! What' the saying??? "The brain can only absorb what the butt can endure" ... everyone that comes into our classrooms remark about the great desks and set-up we have in the 2 main classrooms. The function and comfort of the set-ups is what works best for the environment and information we are teaching. An interactive round table design that you are looking to fund in your proposal sounds like a great way to work with students both from a facilitator view and small group setting. I think students learn in collaborative settings and by setting the classroom up to me more user friendly makes it easier to accomplish that goal. Just so you know I now plan to research these pods as possible furniture upgrades for our group instruction room. Great idea and good luck with the funding... I'm certain that students can benefit from a project like this, well thought out and well done!
Rate said it well, as usual! I think your ideas for a more functional space is right on the money. You have to make your classroom and space work well for you. I rearrange tables, my podium and desk frequently to provide change, excitement and mystery. My students think I am just nuts, but I can definitely tell what works and what doesn't just by the arrangement and the environment set up as a whole. Environment, furniture, windows and sunlight all make a HUGE difference in our students attention and performance. Well done for thinking outside the box here. I got my iPads, next my OSMOs, then I will look into more efficient furnishings like you have done. One step at a time. Maybe 10 or 15 years in I will FINALLY get my dream space. We are all working towards great things. Well done and I am sure you will be awarded your grant. High five!
Amanda, While having a classroom that is designed to improve students learning is very important to me, but I must admit I have never given much thought to different furniture. It is obvious that you put in a lot of work, and there are a lot more options than I also would have thought.
